For workers suffering from COVID-19, workers who are in isolation we demand to be paid a 100% sick leave.
In the past period, we have witnessed a large number of workers not through their own fault, who suffer from COVID-19, or being in isolation or self-isolation due to contact with another worker who has been exposed to COVID-19, whether at work or during transport to and from the workplaces and for that reason we demand from the Government, to adopt a Decree to regulate the status of those workers and to prevent payment of salary lower than 100% as compensation for sick pay.
This Decree will prevent all unscrupulous employers from violating the rights of workers in those extremely complex and difficult moments for them, and thus will ensure security of wages and existence of workers in order to overcome such a situation.
We remind that it is the duty of all of us to keep healthy workers, because only healthy workers can restore the economy.
In addition, we point out that we have reacted to informations that certain employers paid lower amount of salaries than the one for which they received state assistance of 14,500 denars per worker.
We call the Public Revenue Office to immediately inform the public which companies, beneficiaries of financial aid, have paid a salary lower than 14,500 to the workers, because at the end of the day, that State aid will be returned through the taxes paid by the workers, and in that case we demand transparency and accountability for our money.
The government needs to keep this in mind as it continues to provide financial support to the employers.
