From month to month, the cost of living for a family of four increases drastically, and wages do not follow the same growth.
The union minimum basket calculated by the SSM for May amounts to 38,791.00 denars, and from January 2022 (35,811.00 denars) it has increased by 2,980.00 denars, i.e. 8.32%.
In just one year or from the previous year 2021, in the same month of May, when the union minimum basket was 34,156.00 denars, it has increased by 4,635.00 denars, i.e. 12.78%.
According to SSM's analysis, the increase in the minimum union basket is increasing due to the enormous increase in prices.
The biggest increase is in food and beverages by 3.3% compared to the previous month of March 2022, while compared to the previous year 2021 in the same month it increased by 17.0%.
The increase in prices and the growth of inflation, which is 11.9%, affect the reduction of the purchasing power of the workers, therefore SSM rightly demands an increase in the wages of all employees, both in the public and in the private sector, despite the recorded objections of certain entities that are against increasing workers' wages.
That's why we remind you that at the protest on May 1, 7,500 workers together with SSM sent a clear message that the salary increase is needed immediately.
We expect this calculation of the union minimum basket, as well as the increase in the cost of living, to be the reason to immediately approach the conclusion of the General Collective Agreement for the public sector with an increase in the salaries of the workers in accordance with the increase in the minimum wage and to increase them by at least 2806 denars in net to each employee in the public sector, otherwise, a general strike in the public sector will be held on June 22, 2022.
