30 DAYS STRIKE, 30 DAYS OF IGNOREMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT, 30 DAYS OF NEGOTIATIONS AND INCREASE OF SALARIES IN MUNICIPALITIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES

From 22.06.2022, more than 138,000 workers are on a general strike in the public sector, which until today 22.07.2022 lasts 30 days and for the first time, this has happened to a Government because it does not fulfill its promises, lies, and manipulates public sector workers.

In Macedonia, a general strike of the entire sector that lasted for a month did not happen, and so far all the previous governments have understood the needs of the workers, except for this government, which considers that the workers for whom it is responsible do not deserve increased wages in this post covid, energy, and economic crisis.

In conditions where the minimum wage has grown by 18.6% when the cost of living (inflation) amounts to a high 14.5% according to official data, and according to unofficial data and over 20%, when the union minimum basket for the survival of a four-member family household for one year increased by 5,498 denars or 16%, the Government believes that it should not adjust the salaries of the workers in the public sector by 2,806 denars and thus, on a solidarity principle, it will turn out for them in anticipation of at least slightly amortizing the increased costs that impoverish them and make it impossible for them to survive the month.

This Government, for the first time in history, with its attitude, leaves public sector employees to fend for themselves and deal with the consequences of price shocks, and now promises them once again that if they survive until the new year, they will be better off than January.

If the Government considers that it has started the process for accession negotiations with the EU, we point out that its employees both before the start of the process and after the start of the process are equally poor, and receive the lowest salaries in the EU and that the Government cannot expect that the employees of the administration who should work the process, they are motivated by an average salary of 21,300 denars, and 96% of them, their salary is below the average salary.

The discrimination that the Government makes towards its employees is a negative example and it is not clear according to which criteria the Government values employees in a certain sector more than others, according to which criteria it determines for some important sectors without which they were most exposed during the pandemic, such as health, which are not provided for nor the 5% they were told they would get from September, police with 5%, bond 15%, for the rest of the public sector employees 0% salary increase.

The labor of workers in the EU is valued, but not in Macedonia.

The ignorant attitude of the Government continues, but the General Strike of the workers also continues

We remind the Government that it does not appreciate, discriminate, and does not take care of its employees, while the representatives of the local government (mayors and directors of public enterprises) are already increasing salaries, for which the workers are grateful.
