A four-member family household needed 35,811 denars in January 2022 to survive, according to the calculations of the Union minimum basket calculated by the SSM, and its value for one year recorded the largest increase since 2011, when the SSM also calculates the same in December 2022 it amounts to 43,163 denars and if the huge inflation is also calculated, it amounts to 51,234 denars or compared to the beginning of the year it has increased by 15,424 denars.
The fight of SSM last year was aimed at increasing the salaries of members and workers, and we will continue this fight in 2023.
At the same time, in 2022, our activities contributed to the increase of the minimum wage to 18,000 denars, and where we have unions in the private sector, the wages are immediately adjusted to the increase in the minimum wage through social dialogue, but unfortunately, in the public sector, the situation was different and mostly the Government discriminated against its employees and after the pressure from the general strike organized by the SSM began to increase the salaries of the employees but without any criteria, without methodology, probably in a panic because of the general strike in the public sector which for the first time and is happening to a Government and that is because of non-compliance with a legal obligation and non-increase in the salary of the employees.
Unfortunately, the general strike, although successful in 85%, is still ongoing where wages are not aligned and this is devastating for a Government that has been in a state of a general strike in the public sector for 7 (seven) months.
