The strikes, protests, and negotiations that we conducted throughout the past year are yielding results this year as well, and the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia through its activities managed to increase the minimum wage by 4,981 denars, if we keep in mind that by March 2022 the minimum wage was 15,194 denars, and from March 2023 it will amount to more than 20,175 denars.
The victory we achieved for the workers with the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Minimum Wage 24.02.2022 stipulates that the minimum wage will be determined as follows: 50% of the increase in the average paid net wage in the Republic of Macedonia, for the previous year and 50% of the increase in the cost of living index, and the amount of the minimum salary cannot be lower than 57% of the amount of the average paid net salary in Macedonia, and according to the latest data from the State Statistics Office in 2022, the average salary increased by 10.9%, and the cost of living by 14.2%, which allowed the minimum wage from March 2023 to increase by MKD 2,175.
We remind you that Article 2 of the Law on Minimum Wage is prescribed that "Minimum Wage is the lowest monthly amount of the BASIC SALARY that the employer is obliged to pay to the employee for full-time work."
The employee's basic salary is increased when the employee works in conditions more difficult than normal, for a specific position, as well as the employee's basic salary is increased per hour by at least: 35% for overtime work, 35% for night work, 5% for work in three shifts, 50% work on a day of weekly rest, 50% for work on Sunday, etc. For work on holidays and non-working days established by law, the employee has the right to compensation of the salary due to him when he does not work on those days and salary for the hours spent at work increased by 50%, at least by 0.5% for past work, and the supplements are not mutually exclusive
