School for women trade union leaders

The first seminar of the School of Women Trade Union Leaders 2014 took place from 16 to 18 May 2014 in Ohrid. The seminar was supported by the Foundation "Friedrich Ebert", Office Macedonia and was designed to train women unionists from: CCM, KSS, UNASM and SSNM. Participants on this school were representative from all branch unions in the country.

The aim of the School is to put a strong emphasis on gender equality at workplace and encourage women to be involved as leaders in the unions.

This is a second consecutive year women trade unionists, regardless of their union affiliation in confederations, with equal force to be engaged in building a common platform on issues of gender equality.

The first session was opened by:

• Juliana Trajkovik, employed in the Ministry of Interior and member of the Macedonian police union - MPS and first participant in the building peace mission, sponsored by the United Nations, who presented her 18 month stay in Liberia as part of the mission. She was in the team of leaders responsible for training and encouraging women - police recruits in Liberia. In her presentation she highlighted the positive examples of successful women in the "world of men".
• Lale Akgjun, originally German, author and advocate for gender equality, also noted several positive examples of successful women.
• Vlado Karaev, explain to the participants the elements necessary for successful trade union leaders through teamwork and leadership.

In the next period a panel debate within the School of Women Trade Union Leaders 2014 will be held.
