SSM ACTIVITIES DURING 2024
For the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM), this year, 2024 was particularly significant. It contained a large number of challenges, but in the end, we are realistically satisfied with what has been achieved, as well as with the procedures that we have outlined and started, and will be implemented next year and are aimed at realizing, protecting and promoting workers' rights.
CSM is the country's oldest and most numerous trade union, the only representative trade union signatory to the General Collective Agreements in the public and private sectors.
With its engagement during 2024, SCM and the unions in its composition ensured:
- Cancellation of the Supreme Court verdict with which an attempt was made to illegally confiscate or seize the property owned by SCM - the Workers' Home building in favor of the state
- The minimum union basket created by SCM every month to be a benchmark for economic trends in the country and the existential position of workers and citizens, i.e. to be a starting point in creating the Government's measures to overcome poverty and improve the existential position of workers and citizens in the country
- Increase in salaries for 90% of public sector employees
- Increase in salaries in the private sector, primarily by increasing the minimum wage
- Increase in salaries of workers in companies in the private sector where we have union members, which means that 80% of the members of the unions affiliated with SCM in the private sector we have provided higher salaries than the average salary.
- Payment of annual leave allowance in the public sector per the General Collective Agreement for the public sector, signed by SSM
- Payment of annual leave allowance in the private sector under the General Collective Agreement for the private sector in the field of economy, signed by SSM
- Payment of jubilee awards for all workers
- Protection of workers' rights through organized protests and strikes, where the law and the right to social dialogue and negotiation were not respected without justified reasons
- Free legal protection of workers' rights, and 725 appeals were recorded through the mobile application SSM- my workers' rights. For all these appeals of union members and workers, all legal measures and procedures for protection have been taken by both the services of SSM and the unions in its composition, as well as by the DIT, with which SSM has established good cooperation. It is evident that 80% of the reports were submitted by workers who are not members of the union, i.e. they work for employers who do not have a union.
- Protection of the legal status of employees through comments regarding proposed amendments to the Law on Administrative Servants and stopping the adoption of the draft Law on Temporary and Occasional Engagement of Workers, which contained provisions that violated workers' rights.
- A large number of trainings, counseling and education of union membership on the exercise, protection and promotion of workers' rights, as well as on the role and significance of union membership and organization.
