92% OF WORKERS DO NOT WORK ON SUNDAYS, 8% WORK FOR 50% TO 100% INCREASED DAILY WAGES

The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, as a representative trade union and national social partner in the country, was the initiator and the biggest supporter of the legal changes that make Sunday a non-working day for the largest number of employees in the country, and therefore we emphasize that Sunday is finally a day of weekly rest and is a reality as much as certain employers may not like it.

In order to realize this right, our colleagues and fellow trade unionists from SSM, workers, in addition to participating with their proposals, demands, and negotiations, went to a large labor protest after which the Parliament adopted the necessary laws, the Law on Amendments to the Law on Labor Relations Sl. Gazette No. 288 of December 21, 2021, and the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Trade Official Gazette No. 295 of December 27, 2021.

Legal solutions can be better and as a union, we work hard to improve them in the direction of greater protection of workers, but they are many steps forward from the time when there were no restrictions on the day of weekly rest and when everyone worked on Sunday!

The Chamber of Commerce of North Macedonia, although publicly promised, lied to the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and did not withdraw the initiative for a Sunday non-working day submitted to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The Constitutional Court confirmed the commitments of the SSM for Sunday to remain a non-working day, except for the activities of the exceptions, and a summary of this case was drawn up, which was to not initiate proceedings, which means that the law should remain in the legal order and that Sunday should remain a non-working day, except in the activities of the exceptions.

In addition to the employers, which is understandable, there were and still are so-called fighters for workers' rights and non-representative unions who are against the workers resting on Sundays, who are doing everything to abolish this right, and for the workers to work on Sundays, which we will not allow happening. !
