The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM), based on the joint Decision of the Presidency of SSM and the Council of SSM, and in accordance with the Law on Public Assemblies, is organizing a protest with a blockade on 10.02.2026 (Tuesday), which will be held in front of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia starting at 9 am.
The protest / BLOCKADE will be held in front of the Parliament of Macedonia, or more precisely on the streets – st."11-ti Oktomvri" and st."Dame Gruev".
The members of the Parliament have been silent for a whole year about SSM’s proposal to increase the minimum wage and to increase all the other salaries.
To protect their interests, the workers’ are demanding that the minimum wage be immediately increased to 600 euros, and that all the other wages be increased by at least 6.000 denars or by the difference that will come from the increase in the minimum wage (amount that will come from the difference between the current minimum wage and the new minimum wage).
The members of the Parliament are deaf to the workers' demands for an increase in their wages, when those same workers have given them the mandate to enjoy the luxury of having 79% increased wages. Their 79% increased wages will additionally increase by 12.6% if the Constitutional Court repeals the Government Decree from last year. Also their 79% increased wages will increase additional by 9.2%, as well, which represents the increase in the average wage for 2025 and which is calculated by the Governor of the National Bank, or they will receive a total of 21.8% increase in their wages.
This means at least 250 euros wage increase for the members of the Parliament, and not even 25 euros for the workers and this is shameful.
The same members of the Parliament who enjoy the right to have meals at the restaurant located in the Assembly at low prices and travel expenses to their workplace as right that the workers’ still don’t have because they don’t want to vote and to establish the same right to food and transportation costs for the workers.
The members of the Parliament will be the first to face the workers' anger, and through the BLOCKADE we will make it impossible for them to charge travel expenses that day, that can exceed 100 euros in one day, instead they will be obligated to come on foot or by public transport to work, same way as the workers do.
We want to remind them that not only must they urgently vote for an increase in the minimum wage and for an increase in all the other salaries, but they must also vote for a reduction in their own salaries and the salaries of all the other officials following the initiative of SSM.
If they continue to remain silent, we will move on to collecting 10.000 signatures with which we will reduce their salaries and increase the workers' salaries.
They will have to choose, or they will vote for themselves and against the workers (their voters) or they will vote for the workers!
During the protest, unhindered movement will be ensured for the needs of the Emergency Medical Service, the Fire Brigade and the police, and at the same time we apologize to all the citizens who will need to move during the period of the Blockade on the streets mentioned above, for all emergency cases everyone will be allowed to pass.
