AN EXPERT WORKSHOP ON MIGRATION

25-26.5.2016

On 25 and 26 May an "Expert Workshop of the Pan European Regional Committee (PERC) of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) entitled: The challenges of the migration in Europe.

Participants on this expert workshop were the countries from the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe. The workshop was led by the PERC President, Irakli Petriashvili, and was attended by Luca Visentini, the General Secretary of ETUC and PERC.

The purpose of this workshop was to review the challenges of migration (asylum seekers, refugees and migrant workers) in the context of the countries of origin, transit and destination, and their impact on the labor market.

The main topics that were discussed by the representatives of the European Union, the International Labor Organization (ILO), ITUC, ETUC, PSI and EPSU were the following: Clarification of the image: "Challenges of Migration", "Global and European responses and activities," "Workers’ Rights in the context of migration processes: trade unions and migration policies, social dialogue and labor migration, coherence between employment policies and migration risks of labor exploitation (trafficking, forced labor, false employment, social dumping), "Equality and non-discrimination at workplace, process of integration of migrants and refugees (access to employment, education, training, health care, benefits ...) and "the role of trade unions to support the process of integration: collective bargaining and support services, organizing migrant workers and cross-border cooperation".
