Workers at FAKOM production and assembly, supported by the Union of Industry, Energy and Mining (SIER) and the Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (CSM), went on a general strike today due to unpaid salaries. According to the statements of the President of SIER, Igor Gerasov, the workers have not received their January and February salaries, K-15 for 2024 and three consecutive 13th salaries.

-Salaries in the past period of one year have been paid irregularly. The current situation is very problematic because the livelihood of these 550 employees working in this, renowned company that has existed for 65 years on the Macedonian market and beyond still depends on this day. Unfortunately, these workers, our members, have not been paid their January and February salaries, K-15 for 2024 and three consecutive 13th salaries. The workers have done their job, but the company, for reasons unknown to us, has been operating unprofitably in the past period, Gerasov noted.

He explained that in the past year FAKOM showed losses of about 200 million denars but that the company has orders for work for the next three years.

-The company has agreed with contracts for the next period, but the problem is that the workers have not been paid, although they have done their work. We are on strike and will not continue working until all outstanding salaries are paid, emphasized Gerasov.

President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia Slobodan Trendafilov expressed concern over, as he said, the re-emergence of oligarchic practices and called on institutions to ensure the protection of workers.

-We stand firmly behind the workers and will not allow anyone to take advantage of our labor and workers' suffering, emphasized Trendafilov and announced that the CSM will continue to fight more rigorously for the regular payment of salaries and for their increase.

The strike at FAKOM will last until the problems with unpaid salaries are resolved. The workers, who, among other things, worked for the shipbuilding industry in Italy, say they are ready to help the survival of the company, which is an important brand in Macedonia. They inform that a material bridge has currently arrived in Croatia worth about seven and a half million euros.
