The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia informs all those who have lost their jobs during the pandemic, as well as those who have signed a contractual dismissal or gave a personal statement for termination of employment, regardless of the time spent in employment to apply to the Employment Agency no later than June 26.
The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia has established social security systems consisting of two mechanisms. The first mechanism is the use of monetary compensation under the Unemployment Insurance Act. At the initiative of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, an Decree with legal force was adopted to supplement the decree with legal force for application of the Law on Employment and Insurance in case of unemployment during a state of emergency (Official Gazette of RSM no. 136) which expands the scope of persons who can receive monetary compensation. According to the Decree, all those who have lost their jobs between March 11 and April 30, regardless of whether they have signed a contractual termination of employment or a personal statement, or were fired by the employer, will be able to receive monetary compensation for two months.
The process of application is ongoing. All those who have had a termination of employment in the indicated period should submit a request to the competent employment center of the Employment Agency. The deadline for applications is June 26.
After the expiration of the use of the right to monetary compensation, if the employee establishes a new employment relationship, he will be able to regain the right to monetary compensation in accordance with the Law on Employment and Unemployment Insurance, which does not take into account the use of the right to monetary compensation in accordance with this regulation with legal force.
The Government and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy have also provided quick access to material security for the group of unemployed who have previously worked with a fixed-term contract which has expired by law and do not have the minimum of 9 months of uninterrupted service or 12 months of interrupted service, to exercise the right to monetary compensation.
The second mechanism is that all families that have been left without income to be able to enter the social protection system and receive guaranteed minimum assistance. SSM encourages all families to go to the Social Centers and to apply for guaranteed minimum assistance.
