For trade unions in Macedonia, it is frivolous to even think about increasing the retirement age. Instead of increasing the limit, Slobodan Trendafilov from SSM points to the need to introduce more models for favorable conditions for retirement. Their specific proposals have been submitted since 2020, and they referred to the following proposals: introduction of retirement based on seniority regardless of their age, possibility to buy up seniority during early retirement and introduction of benefited seniority for certain categories of citizens. The social dialogue regarding these retirement models is suspended in 2021, but Trendafilov says that the SSM's idea then and now is the same.
"The workforce in Macedonia needs to be renewed. We need to keep the young workers in Macedonia. We shouldn't be sending them abroad to build other people's businesses and the way we free up jobs, whether in the private or public sector, by introducing new retirement models, we will enable these young workers to find employment faster. and perform their tasks more efficiently, to get a more efficient public and private sector, which will contribute to the complete recovery of the economy in the country", says Trendafilov.
What we did for the workers yesterday, we do today, we will continue to do tomorrow.
The Union of Trade Unions of Macedonia, as the only representative representative of the workers in our country, strives always, and especially in these conditions, on behalf of the workers who are members of the trade unions united in SSM, to convey their demands and indications, and in addition to the existing condition for retirement, the SSM demanded that the following retirement conditions be introduced:
- Old age pension - according to length of service
• 35 years of work experience - woman - regardless of age
• 40 years of work experience - male - regardless of age
- Old-age pension - by age or length of service - by activities
Workers in the state are employed in various activities and perform work tasks that are different in weight and in the conditions where they are performed. That is why it is necessary to provide by law some conditions for the retirement of a construction worker, a textile worker, a miner from that worker, for example, who is employed in administration. If different conditions of retirement are determined, they will be the right of choice of the workers, and not mandatory, it will depend on the will of the worker under which conditions he wants to retire.
- Early old-age pension by age
It is proposed to introduce the right of workers to an early old-age pension, which would be realized after the age of 60, with a minimum of 15 years of service.
Beneficiaries of an early old-age pension can be workers who work but cannot continue working for certain reasons (health, work, and cannot be declared disabled, due to bankruptcy or liquidation) or are unemployed and meet the condition - minimum of 15 years of work experience. This type of pension would be realized exclusively at the will and request of the employee.
This requirement for retirement in almost all countries of the European Union is known as the general requirement for retirement and it is realized at the age of 60.
- Partial retirement pension by age
• to enable workers to pay the contribution for pension and disability insurance themselves if they have not met the requirement of at least 15 years of work experience,
• the right to self-payment of the contribution, to be had by workers who lack up to 3 years of work experience from the minimum 15, and meet the age requirement (62, ie 64 years).
- Introduction of benefited seniority for construction workers as well as in other activities where work tasks take place in particularly difficult working conditions that are harmful to the life and health of workers
Such views of the SSM translated into demands are based on the analyzes we have been doing for more than 10 years and we point out that only through Social Dialogue can we find durable solutions for the benefit of the Macedonian worker.
