The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia in the past period point out that the life of the Macedonian worker and citizen is becoming too expensive, and despite their hard work they are poor and cannot afford even the basic food products to feed their family.
The latest data from the Union minimum basket show that in August a family of four living in a house of 50 square meters and not owning a car needed MKD 41,295 just to provide the basic products for life, and when it increases by 16.8% inflation or 6,937, it amounts to 48,234 denars.
The calculation does not include the cost for one student for the purchase of the necessary materials for the beginning of the school year, which, according to the calculations of the SSM, amounts to an additional 6,000 denars.
While the Government sees a rosy world around them and is engaged in celebrations, poverty is knocking on the door of workers and citizens in Macedonia.
According to the data, only food and beverages, which includes 63 products, which do not express the full nutritional needs, but express the opportunities, habits, and tradition in the diet, and the value of the same is not taken as an average, but as a minimum value, 18,324 denars were needed, or 324 denars more than the minimum wage.
Housing has two subgroups: communal costs, with five elements, and household goods, house equipment, and maintenance, which will be monitored through 13 goods, and 12,493 denars were needed to enable the same.
Hygiene has two subgroups – personal hygiene with seven products and home hygiene, also with seven products. These items are expressed in minimum quantities at the lowest prices and 2,808 denars were needed for the same.
For the transportation, minimal express costs are included, that is, two monthly tickets for transportation, for workers and schoolgirls or students, and 3,600 denars are needed.
In August, 2,197 denars were needed for clothing and footwear, including the purchase of one piece of clothing and footwear for each family member by season.
The culture calculation includes the costs of three products, namely going to the cinema once a month and regularly buying one weekly and one daily newspaper, which required 1,067 denars.
Maintenance and health include basic costs for medicines (paracetamol, analgetic, caffeine, etc.), without the medicines for chronic diseases, 786 denars were needed.
The expenses for recreation, education, hotels and restaurants, and family celebrations are not included, not because they are not necessary, but because only the necessary expenses are calculated in the basket, so if these expenses were also calculated, the value of it would be much higher.
If this data is not enough for any of the policymakers to immediately take measures to help and support the workers in these times, hungry and poor workers = the social revolution.
