SSM to protest on May 1 to demand an increase in the minimum wage to at least 500 euros, to demand an increase in all other wages by 100 euros, to demand respect for collective agreements and an increase in all workers' salaries
On May 1, we will protest for higher wages, said the president of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM), Slobodan Trendafilov, at today's press conference, announcing tomorrow's protest that will take place at 11 a.m., with a route from the Workers' House, through the Parliament and the Chamber of Commerce to the Government.
"On May 1, 1886, workers went on demonstrations and fought for an eight-hour working day. Something that we do not have in Macedonia today,"
According to him, SSM will protest on May 1 to demand an increase in the minimum wage to at least 500 euros, to demand an increase in all other wages by 100 euros, to demand respect for collective agreements and an increase in all workers' salaries.
“Our demands are not from today, they did not start yesterday, and they will not end tomorrow. The protest is a way on May 1 to express dissatisfaction with the amount of wages that workers receive in Macedonia, which are the lowest in the region and beyond.”
SSM calls on everyone who cares about the workers to join the workers’ protest.
“Trade unions in Macedonia have many reasons to come out and protest, not to celebrate. We have the opportunity to show that we are here for the workers.”
Some of the unions cooperate with the government to the detriment of the workers!
“Unfortunately, only trade unionists can harm the workers, and when they support government policies, it is always to the detriment of the workers. What colleagues from other unions forget to say is that they accept far smaller amounts stipulated by law and the Collective Agreement, and SSM will not allow any worker to suffer for a wage increase.”
