SSM RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM THE EUROPEAN PUBLIC SECTOR UNION - EPSU

Today, at the conference on the topic Protection and strengthening of trade union and labor rights in the public sector in Skopje of the public sector unions from the European Union and the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, the European Union for the Public Sector - EPSU, the European Confederation of Police Unions - EUROPOL and The European Association of Military Trade Unions – EUROMIL, expressed its unreserved support to the SSM's struggle to harmonize the salaries of public sector employees and to the general strike in the public sector.

The president of SSM, Darko Dimovski, opened the conference and thanked the attendees for the union solidarity expressed towards SSM and emphasized:

The Union of Trade Unions of Macedonia is the only representative union at the national level, in the private and public sector, and as such has a serious responsibility in terms of the implementation, protection, and promotion of labor rights.

In that direction, during this year the SSM is seriously committed to the position of the workers in the public sector, who with their work should and must respond to the needs and interests of the citizens.

We advocate a professional, competent, and efficient public administration that will work dedicatedly in the interest of the citizens' needs, but at the same time, we also advocate for the provision of decent work and the full realization of the labor rights of employees in this important sector.

He informed the representatives from the European unions that, unfortunately, in the last 5 months due to the ignorant attitude of the Government towards the representatives of the workers, the social dialogue in the country does not work and that is one of the reasons why there is a standstill in the collective bargaining in this activity.

The commitment of SSM and public sector unions united in SSM to improve the economic and social position of public sector workers during this year is also visible.

The government of Macedonia does not respect the law and did not increase the salaries of the employees for whom it is responsible, which is why SSM, together with the entire public sector, went on strike that has been going on for 3 months.

The strike is giving the desired results at the local level, collective agreements are being concluded to increase wages at the local level as well as in public enterprises and some ministries, but unfortunately not in most of the ministries and the administration for which the government is responsible, which still refuses to increase wages and thereby help workers overcome this economic crisis.

The president of the SSM, Dimovski, finally underlined that the SSM remains up to the task of fighting for salary increases for all employees in the public sector.
